The General MMD7NP is a pinless meter and can be used for measuring wood and other building materials. It features a backlit display and includes an LED bar that shows dry vs wet.
The measurement range is 0% to 53% moisture content for softwood and 0% to 35% for hardwood. There are four groups to choose from: hardwood, softwood, masonry and wall. This meter does not include a carrying case or soft pouch for transportation.

This meter provided good accuracy for all 3 species up to 15% moisture content. The hardwood readings were high above 15% and the softwood readings were low above 15%. This is typical for meters that do not have the ability to set for individual species.

A small amount of surface moisture affected the reading of this meter. Readings were 2% higher than without the surface moisture present.

The General MMD7NP is rugged and held up well. Points were deducted for no carrying case or soft pouch for transportability.

This meter has a large backlit display but points were deducted for no tactile feedback on the buttons.
Versatility – 3.0 out of 5.0
This meter scored fair in Versatility. Its inability to utilize both pin and pinless measuring modes decreased this rating. Only has two group choices for measuring wood: hardwoods and softwoods.
Range – 5.0 out of 5.0
The General MMD7NP’s measuring range is 0% to 35% for hardwoods and 0% to 53% for softwoods. This range is good for all applications.
Features – 3.2 out of 5.0
This meter scored fair in the Features category. The “Hold” button is handy when it is difficult to see the reading. This meter does not have the ability to store readings and can’t measure moisture in tenths of a percent. There is a 1-year warranty and can be calibrated by the user. It can be sent to a service center for repairs.
